INTERNET GUIDE in haematology and oncology

According to the statistics, annually in Crimea every 10,3 children of 100 thousand become sick with cancer. This data is very close to the statistics of leucemias occurrence in Europe (10 cases for 100 thousand) as reported by World Health Organization.

Hematological Department of the Crimean Republican Pediatric Hospital is designed to provide medical treatment for 30 patients, has 7 doctors who interned in Byelorus, Russia, Germany and Israel. In November 1998 the Pediatric Hematological department will be 10 years old. In 1991 Crimean pediatric hematologists were some of the first in the Ukraine to master the methods of German specialists on the treatment of acute leucemias and to be successful in their work. The treatment is accomplished according to the German program BFM-90. Since 1991 120 children with different forms of leucosis were put under this treatment (8-9 months of hospitalization, 16 months of outpatient treatment – supporting chemotherapy). The cure is evaluated in 5 years after the beginning of the treatment. The statistics for today are the following: 44 children with the diagnosis of acute leucemias were hospitalized in 1991-93. 33 of them are alive after the 5-year testing period. Thus, the survival rate makes 75%. For our information - before the introduction of the German programs the death rate was 97%.

These are the statistics of oncological diseases among children in the Crimea:

Unfortunately, only children with leucemia, limphoma and Hodgkins Disease (46% of all children with oncological diseases) receive the medical treatment which meets the standards of the modern European methods. The doctors of hematological department are ready to offer the programs which would treat other kinds of onkological diseases.
